The Greater Birmingham Auburn Club is looking for Auburn alumni and friends who are ready to get involved, build relationships and help shape the future of the Auburn Family in Birmingham.

Applications are now open for Greater Birmingham Auburn Club officer and board positions.

For 80 years, GBAC has helped foster the Auburn Spirit throughout Greater Birmingham while creating opportunities for local students to attend Auburn University. Today, that mission includes scholarships, community events, student programs, alumni engagement and the continued growth of the GBAC SOAR Fund.

The people who participate in GBAC events represent a much broader Auburn community across Birmingham, alumni, parents, students, friends and supporters. The board’s role is to help bring that community together and create opportunities for it to grow.

None of it happens without volunteers.

More Than a Board Position

Serving on the GBAC Board is an opportunity to give back to Auburn, but it can also be an opportunity to grow personally and professionally.

Board members work alongside Auburn alumni, business leaders, community members, parents and friends from across Greater Birmingham.

Along the way, you’ll have opportunities to:

• Build relationships and expand your professional network within Birmingham’s Auburn community
• Develop leadership and organizational experience
• Help plan and execute major Auburn events
• Support scholarships and opportunities for Birmingham-area Auburn students
• Help grow SOAR membership and engagement
• Connect Auburn alumni, families, students and supporters
• Strengthen Auburn’s presence throughout Greater Birmingham

For professionals looking to become more involved in the community, board service can also provide valuable nonprofit leadership experience while demonstrating initiative, collaboration and community involvement.

Help Serve Birmingham’s Auburn Family

GBAC’s board does more than meet and make decisions. Board members help support a much larger network of Auburn people throughout Greater Birmingham.

That means helping create the events, programs and opportunities that bring people together, whether they are longtime alumni, new graduates, Auburn parents, future students or simply friends of Auburn.

Board members help make those connections possible.

Be Part of the Work

GBAC is a volunteer-driven organization, and board membership is an active role.

Officers and board members are expected to participate in club activities, attend meetings, volunteer at GBAC and SOAR events and help grow engagement within Birmingham’s Auburn Family.

That could mean helping welcome incoming Auburn freshmen at Freshman Send-Off, supporting one of our scholarship fundraising events, connecting with Auburn fans at a local event, helping grow SOAR or bringing new ideas to the organization.

You don’t have to have years of previous GBAC experience to make a difference.

Whether you have been involved with the club for years or have simply been looking for a way to reconnect with Auburn, we want to hear from you.

Who Can Apply?

GBAC welcomes applications from Auburn alumni and other friends and supporters of Auburn University throughout Greater Birmingham.

All GBAC officers and board members are required to be members of the GBAC SOAR Fund at any level of support.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, with selected applicants invited to participate in an interview.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who care about Auburn, care about Greater Birmingham and are willing to help.

Help Build What Comes Next

Greater Birmingham is home to a large and active Auburn community.

The people who attend our events, support our students and participate in GBAC programs are what make the organization possible. The board helps provide the leadership and structure to keep that community connected and moving forward.

We can bring more Auburn people together. We can create stronger connections between Auburn and Birmingham. We can provide more scholarships for local students. And we can build an organization that will serve Birmingham’s Auburn Family for generations to come.

But doing that takes people willing to get involved.
